Professional weed spraying and weed control

Weeds damage hard surfaces, make sites look neglected and, in the case of invasive species, can cause real problems for property and land. Our specialist weed spraying service uses the right product for the weed and the setting, applied accurately to keep your site under control.

We treat weeds for homeowners, letting agents, commercial and industrial premises, developers, landowners, farms and public sector clients across Essex.

Fully insured: £10 million public liability insurance

Agricultural and paddock weed control

For larger areas such as paddocks, grassland and field margins we use an ATV-mounted boom sprayer, which covers ground quickly and evenly. Where accuracy matters — spot-treating individual weeds, working close to sensitive areas or between crop rows — we use a hand-held spray lance with a pressure gauge for precise, controlled application.

We can help landowners, farms, equestrian yards and paddock owners keep weeds such as docks, thistles and nettles under control. Tell us the area, the weeds and how the land is used, and we will recommend an approach.

Choosing the right method

  • ATV boom spraying — efficient coverage of paddocks and larger open areas
  • Hand-held lance — precise spot spraying and work between rows
  • Timing & weather — applied in suitable conditions to minimise drift
  • Grazing & access — we tell you how long to keep people and animals off treated areas

Weed control and weed spraying FAQs

What types of weeds can you treat?

We treat common nuisance weeds on hard surfaces and amenity areas, broadleaf weeds in grass, overgrown scrub such as brambles, and invasive plants. Tell us what you are dealing with — photos help us identify the weed and recommend the right approach.

Can you treat Japanese knotweed?

Contact us with photos and the location. Japanese knotweed usually needs a planned herbicide treatment programme over more than one growing season rather than a single visit, and any knotweed material taken off site is classed as controlled waste in the UK and must be disposed of correctly.

When is the best time of year for weed spraying?

Most weeds are treated while they are actively growing, generally from spring through to autumn. The best timing depends on the weed: for example some invasive species respond best to late-season treatment. We will advise on timing for your site.

Is weed spraying safe for children and pets?

Treated areas should be kept clear until the product has dried, and we will tell you how long to keep people and pets off. We choose products and methods appropriate to the setting and take care near sensitive areas such as play areas and water.

Does the weather affect weed spraying?

Herbicides need a dry period after application to be effective. We plan around the weather forecast and avoid spraying in wind or rain to prevent drift and run-off.

Do people applying herbicides need to be qualified?

In the UK, professional users of pesticides, including herbicides, are required by law to hold an appropriate certificate of competence. We hold PA1, PA2, PA4 and PA6 pesticide application certificates, covering boom sprayers, granular applicators and hand-held and knapsack sprayers, and we carry £10 million public liability insurance.

Can you treat weeds in paddocks used by horses or livestock?

Yes. We can treat weeds such as docks, thistles and nettles in paddocks and grazing land. Animals usually need to be kept off treated areas for a period set out on the product label, and some poisonous plants such as ragwort can become more palatable to animals after spraying, so dead plants should be removed. We will advise on timing and access for your land.

Do you carry out agricultural weed spraying?

Yes, we carry out weed control on agricultural land, using an ATV-mounted boom sprayer for larger areas and a hand-held lance for precise work, including between crop rows. Tell us about the crop or land and the weeds you are dealing with.

Do you offer ongoing weed control contracts?

Yes, as well as one-off treatments we can provide scheduled weed control for commercial sites, car parks, housing developments and public spaces. Get in touch to discuss your site.
