Find out more about Grounds MaintenanceDrainage for waterlogged gardens, lawns, fields and paddocks: French drains, soakaways, land and field drains, pipe runs, stone-filled trenches, chambers and outfalls, dug with our own mini digger.
Homeowners: Chelmsford and surrounding villages · Commercial and industrial: Essex, London and nationwide

Standing water and soggy ground are usually a drainage problem. We install practical garden and land drainage for homes in Chelmsford and surrounding villages, and for farms and commercial land across Essex: pipe runs laid in stone-filled trenches, chambers where needed, and a route for the water to a soakaway, ditch or other outfall.
We dig with our own mini digger and reinstate the ground afterwards. We work for homeowners in Chelmsford and surrounding villages, and for farms, landowners and commercial sites across Essex and London. For drainage as part of bigger projects, see our groundwork service.
Drainage to deal with standing water and soggy ground in gardens and lawns.
Stone-filled trenches with perforated pipe that collect water and carry it away.
Soakaways where the ground is suitable, so collected water can soak away.
Land drains for fields, paddocks and other wet ground.
Drainage pipe runs laid to a fall, with chambers where the system needs them.
Taking water to a ditch, pond or other suitable outfall, where permitted.
Drainage we have installed in Essex: land drain with stone backfill, twin-wall pipe and junctions, a gravel-filled trench, an inspection chamber, an outfall to a pond, and barn yard drainage.

Where drainage connects to a public sewer, discharges to a watercourse, or forms part of building work, approvals may be needed from the sewerage company, the Environment Agency or Building Control. We will talk you through what your project involves.
The Environment Agency’s national flood risk assessment puts around 170,600 properties in the East of England in areas at high risk of flooding from surface water (GOV.UK, National assessment of flood and coastal erosion risk in England 2024).
Essex County Council has estimated 8,506 Essex properties at high risk and 14,825 at medium risk of surface-water flooding. It has also described a Property Flood Resilience grant providing up to £8,000 of flood protection measures for eligible homes (Essex County Council blog, September 2024). The council decides eligibility and what the grant covers, so check the current scheme with Essex County Council.
Good drainage on your own land can help water get away from gardens, yards and buildings. Tell us about the problem and we will suggest a practical approach.
Waterlogging is usually solved with drainage: perforated land drain or twin-wall pipe laid to a fall in a stone-filled trench, taking water to a soakaway, ditch or other suitable outfall. Send us photos and tell us where the water sits, and we will suggest an approach.
A French drain is a trench filled with stone or gravel, usually with a perforated pipe in the bottom, that collects water from the ground and carries it away to a suitable outlet. We dig and install French drains with our own mini digger.
Yes. We dig and install soakaways as part of garden and land drainage, where the ground and the site are suitable for water to soak away.
Yes. We install land and field drainage for fields, paddocks and wet areas, with pipe runs in stone-filled trenches leading to a ditch, soakaway or other outfall.
Usually to a soakaway, a ditch or watercourse, or an existing surface water drain, depending on the site and the ground. Discharges to a watercourse or connections to a public sewer may need permission, so we will discuss the options for your site.
